How we check domain availability
We query each top-level domain's official RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) endpoint — the modern, JSON-based replacement for WHOIS that ICANN mandates for all gTLDs. If the registry returns 404 Not Found, the domain is unregistered. If it returns the domain record, the domain is taken.

Caveats we care about
- Premium prices. RDAP “available” doesn't mean “$9.” Some names are flagged premium by the registry and cost $50-$5000. Always check at the registrar.

- Trademarks. Domain availability doesn't mean trademark availability. Check USPTO + EUIPO before committing.
